DAY 1 DEPART
Departure from the US.
DAY 2 BARCELONA
Hola España! Barcelona is one of Europe’s most lively cities, with a vibrant Catalan culture all of its own. Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees, looking out at the Mediterranean, it combines the best of old and new Spain. Arrive at your hotel, drop off your bags, and explore the neighborhood. Later, enjoy a relaxing dinner at your hotel.
DAY 3 BARCELONA
Enjoy a day’s sightseeing, including the Castillo de Montjuïc and the traditional Gothic Quarter with its maze of narrow streets. You’ll also have a trip to Gaudí’s remarkable cathedral – the Sagrada Familia, an amazing monument to one man’s faith that soars skywards, like something from a dream and is still unfinished after all these years. The 1992 Olympic complex will round off the day’s sights.
DAY 4 GRANADA
Enjoy a day trip to Monserrat, the Basilica and mountain shrine to the Virgin Mary high above the city of Barcelona. Then take the overnight train heading south from Barcelona and wake up in the heart in Granadaand in the heart of Andalusia, Spain’s last Moorish outpost until the Reconquista in the 15th century.
DAY 5 GRANADA
Experience Granada’s rich Islamic legacy by visiting the spectacular Alhambra Palace. Wander through its cool courtyards, richly decorated with mosaics, and enjoy the serene Generalife Gardens with their soothing fountains. ECI Experience Extra.
DAY 6 RONDA
On your way to Ronda, stop at Mijas, one of the most charming of the puertos blancos in the heart of Andalusia. Cross the famous gorge to reach the beautiful, ancient town of Ronda, home to Spain’s oldest bullring.
DAY 7 SEVILLE
Picturesque Seville, home of Flamenco and Carmen! This beautiful town, with its vibrant ceramic tiles and ornate ironwork, is the epitome of Southern Spain. Depending on the time of year, the air may be heavy with the scent of orange blossom, and the streets echo with the sound of castanets. The many highlights include the Plaza de España, the Giralda Tower, and the impressive Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in the world.
DAY 8 SEVILLE
Enjoy a free day in Seville, perhaps taking in the former royal residence of the Alcázar, with its beautiful gardens and many fountains. Or simply explore the winding streets, picking up some souvenirs or stopping off to enjoy tapas in a local café. Evening ECI Experience Extra.
DAY 9 MADRID
Today you’ll head north on the Ave, Spain’s high-speed train, to the vibrant capital city of Madrid. Enjoy a free evening in the city and a relaxing dinner in the hotel.
DAY 10 MADRID
Explore Madrid’s many highlights, including the Plaza de España, the Plaza Colon, and the Royal Palace. You’ll want to save time to visit the world-renowned art collection in the Prado, where you will see the works of Spanish masters Goya, Velázquez and El Greco
among many others.
DAY 11 SALAMANCA
Leave the Spanish capital of today for Toledo – the county’s old capital. Highlights of this fascinating town include the Church of Santo Tomé, the Gothic Cathedral, and the medieval Synagogue. Continue your journey to Salamanca, home to one of the world’s oldest
universities.
DAY 12 SALAMANCA
Explore this fascinating city on foot, including the university, with its elaborately decorated façade (try to spot the frog on the skull!). You'll also see the aptly named Casa de las Conchas – a house entirely covered in shells, the symbol of pilgrimage – and the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain. DAY 13 SEGOVIA
The ancient town of Segovia is not to be missed. Here you will see the Alcázar, high above the town like a fairytale castle, and the first-century aqueduct, which still carries water to the city today. You will also visit El Escorial, with its magnificent palace monastery, and the Valley of the Fallen, which commemorates the million people who died in the Spanish Civil War.
DAY 14 HOME
Depart for the US.
