8-day Toledo, Madrid & Salamanca Experience

Itinerary

DAY 1 DEPART
Departure from the US.

DAY 2 TOLEDO
Hola España! You’ll arrive in Madrid and take a short bus ride to the old capital of Toledo, a wonderfully traditional introduction to this vibrant country. You’ll have time to unwind in your hotel and enjoy a relaxing dinner before exploring the city tomorrow.

DAY 3 TOLEDO
Highlights of this fascinating town include the Church of Santo Tomé, the Gothic Cathedral, and the medieval Synagogue. You’ll have free time in the afternoon to shop for swords – a specialty of the area – and see first-hand how they’re made, check out Toledo Damascene ware, or relax in a café in the Plaza and simply soak up the passing scene.

DAY 4 SALAMANCA
Visit the amazingly wellpreserved walled city of Avila, one of the most beautiful in Europe and home of St Teresa. Visit her shrine before continuing your journey to Salamanca, a lively city with one of Spain’s leading universities – and one of the oldest in the world.

DAY 5 SALAMANCA
Explore this fascinating city on foot, including the university, with its elaborately decorated façade (try to spot the frog on the skull!) You will also see the aptly named Casa de las Conchas – a house entirely covered in shells, the symbol of pilgrimage – and the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain. ECI Experience Extra of your choice.

DAY 6 MADRID
Today’s excursion takes in Segovia, where you will see the Alcázar, high above the town like a fairy-tale castle, and the first-century aqueduct, which still carries water to the city today. Then on to El Escorial to visit the magnificent palace monastery and Valley of the Fallen, which commemorates the million people who died in the Spanish Civil War. Arrive in Madrid.

DAY 7 MADRID
In the morning you’ll experience the highlights of Madrid from a hop-on/hop-off bus, including the Plaza de España, the Plaza Colon, and the Royal Palace. You’ll have free time in the afternoon to visit the world-renowned art collection in the Prado, shop for souvenirs, or stroll along the Gran Via to watch the world go by.

DAY 8 ADIÓS ESPAÑA!
Depart for the US.
